GNUプロジェクトおよびGCCデベロッパチームは10月26日(協定世界時)、「GCC 6.5 Released」において、GNU Compiler Collection 6系の最新版となる「GNU Compiler Collection version 6.5」のリリースを伝えた。今回のバージョンが6系最後のバージョンとされている。

GNU Compiler Collection version 6.5は6系に対するバグ修正リリースの位置づけにあり、1つ前のリリースバージョンであるGNU Compiler Collection version 6.4で発見された深刻なバグやリグレッションバグが修正されている。このリリースで修正されたバグの数は250個を上回っている。

GNU Compiler Collectionの現在の開発バージョンは9系で、GNU Compiler Collection version 9.0が開発段階にある。GNU Compiler Collection version 9.0は来年の早い時期に安定版（GNU Compiler Collection version 9.1）としてリリースされる見とおし。そのほかではGNU Compiler Collection version 8.2およびGNU Compiler Collection version 7.3が安定版としてリリースされている。

GNU Compiler Collection 6系を使っている場合、サポートが提供されているより新しいバージョンへ移行するか、または少なくともバグ修正が実施されたGNU Compiler Collection version 6.5へアップデートすることが望まれる。最新版は世界中のミラーサイトからダウンロード可能。
