Q-Successは1月2日(ドイツ時間)、「Web Technologies of the Year 2018」において、2018年のSSL認証局・オブ・ザ・イヤーを伝えた。受賞したのははIdenTrustだ。IdenTrustはシェアは31.1%に到達しており、そのシェアは2018年で2倍に増加している。IdenTrustは2017年にもSSL認証局・オブ・ザ・イヤーを獲得した。

IdenTrustはLet's Encryptのルート認証局であり、SSL証明書の普及に大きな役割を担っている。Let's EncryptのSSL証明書は無償で取得することが可能。取得のみならず更新に関してもAPIを経由して自動で行えるため、多くのサイトがSSL証明書としてLet's Entryptを利用するようになった。こうしたLet's Encryptの利用増加がIdenTrustのシェア増加の大きな要因になっている。

「Web Technologies of the Year 2018」はWeb技術を利用しているサイトの数をベースにして2018年の間に最も利用数が増加した技術をリストアップするというもの。2018年1月1日と2019年1月1日における利用数を比較してランキングを発表している。調査対象とされているのはトップ1000万サイト。
