Microsoftは7日(米国時間)、Windows Azureのサービスを拡充したことを発表した。Windows Azureは、Microsoftが提供しているクラウドサービス。今回の発表ではIaaSを新たに導入し、新しい仮想プラットフォームの提供を行っている。IaaSで提供される仮想マシンは次のとおり。

Windows Server 仮想マシン

• Windows Server 2008 R2
• Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2012評価版
• Windows Server 2012 RC

Linux 仮想マシン

• OpenSUSE 12.1
• CentOS 6.2
• Ubuntu 12.04
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP2

また、WebアプリケーションやWebサイト構築を容易に作成できる「Windows Azure Web Sites 」や、VPNs(Virtual Private Networks)を作成できる「Windows Azure Virtual Network」などの新しいサービスの提供も始める。

その他にも言語サポートが強化されており、「Windows Azure SDK for Java」「Windows Azure SDK for Node.js」「Windows Azure SDK for .NET」「Windows Azure SDK for PHP」の改善が行われ、新たに「Windows Azure SDK for Python」が追加されている。
